The team at Illuminated Events would like to congratulate Nathan and Christine as they begin this journey together as man and wife! We caught up with Christine through an online interview after their honeymoon and this is what she had to say!
How did he propose?
"Nate proposed at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla. We were there on a family vacation and we had just checked into our room. He told me to open the window and when I turned around he was down on one knee. I was not expecting it at that moment so he definitely surprised me! He said he had to improvise because he thought our room was going to have a balcony and propose there but we got a room that didn't have one. The bellman showed up with our bags right after I said yes and I think he felt a little awkward for being there!"
What was the most exciting and/or challenging thing leading up to the wedding?
"The most challenging thing was designing all of the details. I'm a graphic design so I designed and assembled all of the elements of the wedding. I know my wedding party was really excited when they saw how detailed the invitations, programs, escort cards and signs were (not!). It took a few months to design and assemble everything but it was worth it since every element was custom made and just what I wanted."
What was the best part of your ceremony?
"The best part of the ceremony was marrying Nate! (cheesy!) I think the funniest part of the ceremony was tripping up the stairs. My dress had a lot of layers and my heel got caught in my underskirt while I was walking up the stairs. My parents tried to find my heel to fix it but their were so many layers it was impossible! There was a few minute pause during the procession where I had to rip my heel through the underskirt to get it out! By the time I made it up the stairs I was laughing so I'm not sure what everyone was thinking since most brides aren't usually laughing while walking down the aisle."
What was the best part of your reception?
"Our reception was a big party! Everybody had a fantastic time and got a little crazy! I would say Nate and mines highlight of the reception was our first dance. We took dance lessons and had a whole ballroom routine. I don't know if everyone else thought it was the best moment but Nate and I were really proud of ourselves for not messing up. It felt like we were on dancing with the stars! I think everyone had a great time dancing the Hora too. It was scary to get lifted up in the chairs since we ended up with chairs that had no arm rails. I almost slipped off a few times! I also didn't tell my parents that they would be put in the chairs too so it was great to see their reaction."
Where did you spend your honeymoon?
"Nate and I went to Canada for our honeymoon. We spent 10 days in Quebec City, Magog, and Montreal. It was nice to relax, walk around the cities, and eat and drink! The food was fantastic the whole trip and made it really enjoyable since we had been on a strict wedding diet. We did some city tours, rented a boat on a lake, got a couples massage, and biked to a waterfall. It was nice to think about something other than wedding planing!"
Is there anything else you would like to share about your wedding?
"I want to thank all of the great vendors who made the day possible! I am very picky when it comes to design elements and can be controlling so it was hard for me to trust that everyone would see my vision. My vision wouldn't have come to life if they didn't execute it exactly how I wanted and everyone exceeded expectations."
Congratulations Nathan and Christine!
